ProTip: It is best practice to regularly check your junk email folders to ensure no safe emails have been improperly labeled as junk. It is best to check this folder once a day and delete the contents of the folder weekly or bi-weekly.

When using an IMAP email account, an IMAP folder list can be downloaded that displays all the folders contained in your account on the mail server. You can then select which folders that you want to subscribe to or view on your computer.

In Outlook, in the Navigation Pane, right-click the top folder for your IMAP account.

Click IMAP Folders.

Click Query.

Click a folder, and then click Subscribe or Unsubscribe.

NOTE: To select multiple folders, press and hold CTRL as you click folder names.

If you have created a new folder on the mail server in another application or using a web browser, and the new folder doesn’t appear in the IMAP Folders dialog box, you can update the folder list by doing the following:

In Mail, in the Navigation Pane, right-click the top folder for your IMAP account.

Click Update Folder List.

Repeat the steps in the first section and all of your IMAP account folders appear. You can then click Subscribe or Unsubscribe.

If you receive a suspicious email FORWARD it to support@globalit.com. Our security experts will be able to look at the email to determine if it is a fake. There are some hints about identifying scam email below but it is often very difficult to tell for sure since the scammers adjust their tactics. So, if you have the slightest doubt, send it to our experts for investigation.

Note: Please FORWARD the suspect email don’t cut and paste the contents because valuable tracking information about the source will be lost.

What is phishing?

“Phishing” is an attempt to steal your information. Criminals pretend to be a legitimate business to get you to disclose sensitive personal information, such as credit and debit card numbers, bank information, account passwords, or Social Security numbers.

One of the most common phishing scams involves sending an email that fraudulently claims to be from a well-known company. However, it can also be carried out in person, over the phone, via malicious pop-up windows, and “spoof” or fake websites.

How Phishing Works

A criminal sends a large number of emails to people using lists of email address identified as active or at random. These emails appear to be messages from a well-known company. A common example contains a fictitious story designed to lure you into clicking on a link or calling a phone number.

The phishing email will ask you to fill out a form or click on a link or button that take you to a fraudulent website.

The fraudulent website mimics the company referenced in the email, and aims to extract your sensitive personal data.

In essence, you think you’re giving your information to a trusted company when, in fact, you’re giving it to a criminal.

Note that phishing emails can also lure you to open suspicious attachments or visit websites that can infect your computer with malware.

How to Spot a Fake Email

There are many telltale signs of a fraudulent email:

False Sense of Urgency – Many scam emails tell you that your account will be in jeopardy if something critical is not updated right away.

Fake Links – These may look real, but they can lead you astray. Check where a link is going before you click by hovering over the URL in an email, and comparing it to the URL in the browser. If it looks suspicious, don’t click.

Attachments – Attachments can contain malware, so you should never open an attachment unless you are 100% sure it’s legitimate.

Here are some examples:

You receive an email stating: “Your order #ZK04769 is confirmed for shipment tomorrow. Please click here to review the shipping details.” But you never placed an order so you click on the link and login to see what it is. Only later do you realize that the link took you to a bogus website.

You receive an email stating: “We have noticed suspicious activity on your account. Please click here to review your recent transactions.” Once again the link takes you to a page that looks correct but is really a bogus link.

“We would like to offer you a special $50 coupon for being such a good customer. This offer is limited to the first 100 people so click here immediately to claim your reward.” Instead of a reward, you are directed to a fake website where you might give up your account id and password which the scammers will use to spend from your account.

For more examples see these sites:

If you fall for Phishing:

There are plenty of clever scam attempts and new ones are being created all the time, so despite your best intentions it could happen. If you have a suspicion that you fell for a scam here are some steps to protect yourself:

Change your account passwords, PIN’s and Security Questions immediately. Do this for all of your bank accounts, email accounts and other online accounts.

Run an Antivirus scan on your system to make sure that you did not pick up a virus. Make sure that your system and Anti-Virus software is up to date.

Check your online accounts and statements vigilantly over the next few weeks and months for unexpected actions.

Many times, a business that has decided to colocate is not exactly sure how many rack spaces, or cabinets, they will require. Colocation “cabinets” are available in “U” sizes and are sold in increments that range from 1U up to multiple full racks / cabinets (42U ea.). Although it might seem obvious at first there are some variables to consider when searching for a colocation partner. These variables include:

Number of rack spaces used by servers

Rack spaces used by Ethernet switches, VPN devices, KVM devices, and other equipment

Rack spaces used by power management (outlet switching) devices

Rack spaces reserved for ongoing growth as more equipment is needed

Secure racks, cages, or cabinets

Double U (2U)

A 2U is large enough to support a single 2U server such as a Dell R720 or a single 1U server such as a Dell R620 and a 1U switch or firewall such as the Cisco ASA 5510.

Quarter Rack (10U)

Quarter racks feature 10U’s of colocation space contained inside a shared, lockable cabinet. As with all colocation, bandwidth and power are sold a la carte and are customizable. Growing businesses typically use this option if they have more than 6U’s worth of equipment to colocate off-site.

Half Rack (21U)

A half rack of colocation is one of our most popular choices. There is sufficient room for multiple servers, SANs, and switches, which allows a customer to construct more complex platforms such as those required for small virtualization clusters or disaster recovery sites. Half rack colocation features 21U’s of colocation space located inside a shared cabinet.

Full Rack (42U)

Companies using full-rack solutions often need hosting for dozens of servers and large network equipment. Redundant Internet connections and higher bandwidth requirements are also common for customers with one or more cabinets of colocation. Common applications are large virtualization clusters, high capacity off-site storage, or those who are in need of private cabinet space. Full rack co-location features 42U’s of co-location space located inside a private, locking cabinet.

Power Source

The amount of power, or amperage, that businesses require to operate servers depends on the size and quantity of their equipment. It is recommended that quarter rack customers purchase 10 Amps of 110v power. On the other hand, equipment occupying a full cabinet commonly requires anywhere from 1 x 20 Amp 110v to 2 x 30 Amp 208v power.

RoundCube and SquirrelMail are more streamlined with fewer features and both are easy to use as well.

We encourage our clients to experiment with each application and find that one that suits their needs.

After you have selected your webmail application you are ready to read and send e-mail from your webmail portal.

Description: The site description is very important; in order to ensure the best results, make sure you try to not surpass the proper amount of characters (currently 160).

The description is what is shown on all search engines when your site comes up; pack it full of rich content, so that it hooks the reader in.

Make sure all tags, headers, and descriptions contain your keywords. This is one of the things search engines will be looking for.

The website must be consistently updated.

A website that is rich with relevant, and new content will be held at a higher value and receive better rankings. The site map is what Google uses to navigate through your website and also to see when the most recent update was made. If you have a clean site map and are consistently making updates, higher rankings will be received.

Create links to your social media pages on your site, it gives more exposure and is also more user-friendly.

More exposure will increase credibility and improve your networking.

Add blogs and forums to your website to increase value and ranking.

Avoid duplicate content; Google will discredit you for having any.

Make use of tracking codes, these allow you to see the progress of your site.

How many people are frequenting your website?

How long are people staying on your site?

What specifically are the viewer’s looking at?

1. Content Rich

Make sure all the content within your website holds value. Avoid any fluff that will lose the people’s interest. Keep them engaged with rich content. They came to your site looking for answers, so give them and make it easy to follow. Also, Google will place a higher ranking for your site if it contains rich and relevant content, allowing you to jump up in SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

2. Short & to the Point

According to an article written by Jakob Nielsen, a leading web usability consultant, the average user spends anywhere from 10 seconds to slightly under a minute of time on any given webpage. So that means within 60 seconds, your average person will have already lost interest in your site if you cannot give them what they need within that time. People are looking for quick solutions to their problems, so do not fill your site with large sums of filler information that will cause people to lose interest in what they are reading, and your website. Avoid any duplicate content on your site. Still keep it content-rich, however, remember: short and to the point.

3. User Friendly

Not until recently has the average person become more tech-savvy. However, there are a large number of people in the world who are still getting the hang of it. Do not over complicate your site, frustrating users with all the bells and whistles. Virtually hold their hand and walk them through the site. Show them the way through simple and clean navigation menus. Make it easy to navigate through your website. Be careful though, this may help increase the 60-second gap you have to grab the attention of your viewer.

4. Online Marketing/SEO

Your website will not publicize itself, so an effort must be made to expand your presence on the World Wide Web. Register in online directories, create social media sites for your website and optimize your site. In order to rise in the SERPs, you must follow the guidelines that Google sets. Make sure your site is content-rich and that it is filled with keywords that have high KEI (Key Word Effectiveness).

5. Professionalism

Your website is a representation of your business and/or yourself. With that being said, make sure that it is clean and presentable. Show your viewer that you deserve their time and that you have something to offer.

6.Up to Date

A very important part of having a successful website is up-to-date content. You can have the richest, short-to-the-point, and clean site, but if the information has not been updated in over a year, it can toss all credibility and value out the window. Google uses the site map of websites to see when the site was last updated. If Google finds an outdated site with old information that it has already seen before, your ranking in the SERPs will decrease.

7. Monitor Your Site

Stay on top of your progress. Constantly be monitoring your site’s success or lack thereof. There are useful tools, such as Google Analytics, which allow you to check how many people are frequenting your site, what exactly they are looking at, and how long they stay on your page. Using these tools, you can see what areas of your site may need some improvement.

8. Do it Right, Do it Once

If you do not have a background in web design, are just looking to save your money, and have your site designed as quickly, cheaply, and easiest as possible, stop. Do not waste your time doing so because eventually you will have to put in the time and money, and you will already be a long way behind. Having a clean, well-designed website is important for your online presence. Outsource to professional web designers, people who will take the time to do it right, so that you only have to do it once. Spend that little extra cash, because, in the long run, the returns on your investment will be worth it.
